about

All tracks composed and recorded between 2015-2021. Don't pay for this. If there's an issue downloading let me know.

Why a Floppy?

This album is inspired by entertainment media of the 90's through early 2000's, where limits on technology became defining characteristics of a work. It's my own take on nostalgic (lo-fi) beats, meant to be evocative of that time period. The purpose of having a 'floppy edition' - album that can fit on a floppy disk - was put the work through similar limitations.

Seriously?

Seriously.

Doesn't that make it sound like crap?

That's kind of the point. Giving the tracks similar limitations, issues, and flaws as the work that inspired to see what they retain and what changes (for better or worse) felt fitting.

Besides, the less crappy versions are available and it's all free.

Why do the 'floppy' versions sound like the regular ones?

Because I nailed it.

Really, the way this was mixed was meant to emulate file compression. This artificial compression - in some cases - meant the actual compression barely changed anything audio quality-wise. (Read: I mixed really bad, but kind of on purpose).

What is the 'definitive' version?

Whatever you want. Sticking to the theme outlined above, the highly compressed mp3's on the floppys are the closest to goal of the piece. Bandcamp won't let me upload the actual compressed tracks, so the downloads of the floppy cut wouldn't actually fit on a floppy disk. You're going to have to buy a floppy disk or take my word for it (just take my word for it).

Can I actually listen off of the floppy?

If you have a computer with a floppy drive (or an external one), you should be able to open the mp3 files. This is 30+ year old hardware, so the most I guarantee you is that I was able to add and read the song files off of the disks before sending them. If you order a floppy and there's an issue, let me know and we'll work something out.
